Some of our favourite family-friendly festivals on offer in 2018

Family holidays and camping trips can get quite similar after a while and that sometimes means that they lose their magic. Rather than going to the same campsite with the same local amenities and doing the same activities, try one of the many fantastic family-friendly festivals taking place in the UK this year instead!

Finding a family-friendly festival isn’t always easy and you don’t want to spend hours searching for one that’s right for you only to find it sold out months ago. So, to help you to start planning, we’ve compiled a list of the leading family-friendly festivals in the UK in 2018 – in date order – for you to choose your favourite.

Festivals in May 2018


Cosmic Puffin – Essex

When: Saturday 5th May 2018
Where: Mersea Youth Camp, Mersea Island, CO5 8SX

Why: A music festival featuring around 100 bands that you may never have heard of before but you could fall in love with over the course of this one-day, family friendly music festival. Tickets can be bought online with prices including the cost of camping so you can make a real family weekend of it. Great for families who love listening to live music, having fun and sleeping out under the stars.

Faerie Festival – East Sussex

When: 18th to 20th May 2018
Where: Pleasant Rise Farm, Alfriston, East Sussex, BN26 5TN

Wood Festival – Oxfordshire

When: 18th to 20th May 2018
Where: Braziers Park, Oxfordshire

Why: Music, workshops, food and drink plus some beautiful countryside make Wood one of the most beautiful and fun family festivals on the calendar. Described as a festival of music and nature you’ll have the opportunity to try a wealth of new activities and listen to bands you may and may not have heard of out in the great outdoors.

Shropshire Kids Festival – Shropshire


When: Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th May 2018
Where: Shrewsbury Quarry Park

Why: With all kinds of things to see and do the Shropshire Kids Festival is great for families and children of all ages. Packed full of active, hands-on activities to keep them entertained for hours they’ll have the chance to try different sports, drama, music and much more.

Bearded Theory – Derbyshire


When: 24th to 27th May 2018
Where: Catton Hall, Derbyshire

Why: One of the UK’s most popular family friendly festivals, Bearded Theory is an event that is selling out faster and faster each year. With big-name music acts performing on stage plus a whole host of activities to get involved in over the course of the weekend with Bearded School and Rogue’s Corner for the younger ones looking to explore without mum and dad!

Knockengorroch – Dumfries & Galloway

Where: Knockengorroch, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland

Ireby Festival – Cumbria

When: 25th to 26th May 2018
Where: Ireby, Lake District

Why: Ireby Festival is set within the picturesque Lake District, approximately 12 miles from Keswick to the west of the region. Over the course of the weekend the village is transformed into the host location for this unforgettable family music festival which has become renowned for its wonderful atmosphere and range of live acts.

Festival on the Moor – North Yorkshire

When: 25th to 28th May 2018
Where: Botton Village, Danby, Yorkshire

Geronimo Fest – Cheshire

When: 25th to 28th May 2018
Where: Arley Hall, Cheshire

Why: More than 130 acts and a variety of different forms of family friendly entertainment make Geronimo Festival one of the UK’s most popular. The event held at Arley Hall in Cheshire offers everything from live music to activities from the Highland Games and a motorcycle display team.

Elderflower Fields – East Sussex

Why: The organisers of Elderflower Fields have designed the event around families and children and as they approach their tenth year they’ve maintained their commitment. Acoustic Festival – Staffordshire

Wychwood Festival – Gloucestershire


When: 1st to 3rd June 2018
Where: Cheltenham Racecourse, Gloucestershire

Southwell Folk Festival – Nottinghamshire

Keswick Mountain Festival – Cumbria

When: 8th to 10th June 2018
Where: Keswick, Cumbria

3 Wishes Fairy Festival – Cornwall

Isle of Wight Festival – Isle of Wight

Solas Festival – Perth

Tartan Heart Festival – Inverness

When: 2nd to 4th August 2018
Where: Belladrum Estate, Inverness-shire

Why: One of the UK’s leading festivals returns to the Belladrum Estate in 2018 with another jam-packed weekend of live music. With its Scottish theme evident everywhere you look from the fantastic acts on stage to the crowd in their Tartan outfits, it’s a great family weekend in the Highlands.
