Mammut Experience Day

GO staff hit the hills with the guys from Mammut

Mammut are on the rise here in the UK, offering some great high end technical gear to tackle some of the worlds worst conditions. To help get our staff involved in what they do, Mammut offered to take GO staff on a Mammut experience day, to find out exactly what the Mammoth was all about.

In the last 150 years Mammut have grown from a traditional rope works to a favoured outdoor brand offering kit ranging from ropes, to clothing, to boots, sleeping bags and much more to cater to the Mountaineers needs. Purchasing brands such as Raichle and Ajungilak only aided their knowledge along the way to creating the quality products we see today.

On The Day
26 arrived from GO Outdoors including 5 head office staff and 21 store staff and managers, while Mammut brought with them two of their trainers, their MD and Sales Director. Alongside an already large group we had representatives from GORE, Grangers and Bridgedale, and two guides from Sam Sykes LTD.

The group arrived at the YHA in Castleton amidst dense fog and cold temperatures.  The day got under way with an introduction from the Managing Director of Mammut UK, about the importance understanding how well Mammut kit works and exactly what the gear is capable of. This would prove invaluable knowledge for our staff so they can advise customers on the right sort of products for their activity.

The rest of the morning was spent learning about Mammut’s footwear technology and the new range on offer, presentations were shown from waterproof fabrics legend GORE-TEX, aftercare specialist Grangers, and UK made and the ever popular Bridgedale.

Keen to get out the door, kit was distributed, sandwiches were put in packs and everyone walked out into what felt like to first sunshine of the year.  With not a cloud in the sky, the fog burned off and revealed a truly stunning day.

The route lead straight out the back of the hostel up to Hollins Cross, over the ridge, up to Mam Tor and down its face. They then proceeded past the landslip, and over the fields back to the hostel.

All involved said how much they enjoyed the day, and how important it was to actually test out the gear our customers are interested in. Charlie, GO Outdoors Learning and Development Coordinator had this to say:

“Staff having first hand experience with products will make their advice to our customers much more relevant. It is important they can say, ‘I tried this last week on the hill and it was great.’ Mammut is a fantastic brand and we want to ensure we know what their products are about. They put on a great day and it was easy to tell by the smile on all the staff’s faces at the end of the day.”
