National Parks Week 2014

28th July – 3rd August is National Parks Week

One of the best things about Britain is the beauty of our countryside spaces. The end of July and beginning of August is set aside to celebrate our National Parks, get people into the outdoors and enjoying the natural beauty of Britain. National Parks Week offers plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy, over all of the 15 locations.

The UK has 15 Nation Park areas, all protected because of their natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage. These National Parks aren’t just empty countryside spaces, they include villages, towns and farms which are also protected. Visitors flock to these areas all year round to pursue a variety of hobbies.

You can see how important these spaces are to the UK by how much space they take up:

England: 10 National Parks cover 9.3% of the land
Wales: 3 National Parks cover 19.9% of the land
Scotland: 2 National Parks cover 7.2% of the land
National Parks Week
With so much going on during National Parks week, all the information for the activities taking place is available on the official National Parks website.

These events make for an ideal trip during the school holidays. With activities such as guided walks, exploring medieval castles, bat spotting, stone carving, den building and more, there is truly something for all ages.

Organised activity not for you?
If you can’t get to the parks on the dates provided, the National Park also provide some great ‘Top 15′ lists, which offer cycle routes, camping areas, running spots, family activities and more. You can reach all this information here.
We do hope you’ll try and get out to one of the parks this week and help support this worthwhile event.
