We count down the top 10 outdoor brands as voted by you.
When December rolls around we like to have a little retrospective on the year gone by where we celebrate all the great and good from the last 12 months. We do this by hosting our annual GO Outdoors Awards, during which we crown the prestigious ‘best brand of the year’. All votes are public and by GO colleagues so we can look at which brands you’ve really been supporting this year. Here we delve deeper into the vote and show you the complete top 10.
Leo Houlding led a team of five mountaineers to complete a first ascent on the North West face of the Mirror Wall a prolific 1,200m peak in remote Greenland. The team spent 12 nights on the wall battling harsh weather environments to top out in an upwards snow storm at 4:20am on 22 July – making it the perfect test environment for Berghaus’ Extrem range. Here we take a look at what it takes to scale a wall four times the height of London’s shard.
Berghaus gears up for exclusive re-launch of Extrem
Impossible is an invitation; for the most committed of climbers to achieve the most improbable objectives, for mountaineers to push on through unsympathetic scenes of wind, rain and snow and for Berghaus’ MtnHaus™ design and development team to completely redesign and re-launch its top-end clothing range, Extrem, for Autumn/Winter 2016.
If your idea of a weekend well spent is taking on the fells, hills and mountains – whatever the weather – the Berghaus Explorer Active GTX will make for the perfect addition to your 2016 kit list.
Crowning the best outdoor brands of the last year
With the general election looming, we’ve been asking you to elect your favourite outdoor brands. Each year we crown the top 10 outdoor brands according to GO Outdoors customers. Fans out of the outdoors can be fiercely loyal to their favourite brand, but has another brand stepped up their game and impressed over the last year? Here are the results
Outdoor sponsored athletes come in all shapes and sizes, and we’ve even had some working with us here at GO Outdoors, but when we were given the chance to sit down with a real British favourite of the climbing world in Mick Fowler, we couldn’t resist.
For those who might be new to the name, Mick Fowler is an award-winning mountaineer and author. He was voted the ‘Mountaineer’s mountaineer’ by The Observer, and has picked up prestigious awards such as the Piolet d’OR and the Golden Piton for his climbs. He was one of the first people to rock climb at E6 difficulty, and winter climb at grade VI – it’s no doubt that Mick Fowler is a real pioneer when it comes to adventurous climbing.
While he’s not conquering the cliff face, Mick works full time for HM Revenue and Customs, and while not in the office he has been working as a Berghaus-sponsored athlete since 2008.
We asked you to send in your questions for the man himself, and here is how it went:
We asked our customers which were their favourite brands in 2013
2013 was a year of testing weather, who can forget the snow which seemed to stick around until April/May time, a wait for the sun and then being blasted with record heat for what felt like a pretty reasonable British summer time. As we stroll back through what has so far been quite a mild winter, we took to Facebook and Twitter to ask our customers – Which were your favourite brands of 2013?
Wanderlust magazine brings the readers travel awards each year and especially interesting to us is the top ten outdoor brands category. A favourite outdoor brand generally comes with the type of outdoor activity you undertake, it’s difficult to not feel some loyalty toward a brand when you find a piece of kit that covers all the bases you need. So below we’ll talk about the Wanderlust top 10, and our own top 10 after asking GO outdoors customers their favourites.
