GO Outdoors Customers Raise £10,000 for Mountain Rescue after Mammut Mini Mammoth Donation
GO Outdoors customers have raised £10,000 for Mountain Rescue after purchasing 2,000 mini mammoth cuddly toys.
The toys were donated by outdoor gear manufacturer Mammut and have been exclusively available from 44 GO Outdoors stores throughout the country since July 27th.
July 27th was the date that marked the beginning of the UK’s first-ever national Britain on Foot ‘Walk the World in 80 Days’ challenge.
And 100% of the proceeds have now been donated to the national outdoor rescue charity.
For Mammut, marketing manager Rob Sykes said,
“What an incredible result! And wonderful to have so much support from GO Outdoors and their customers for such a worthy cause.
“The 80-day walking challenge was a wonderful incentive to encourage people to enjoy the outdoors this summer. But a big part of enjoying the outdoors is making sure we stay safe. That’s why we wanted to raise a significant cash amount for Mountain Rescue.”
Mike France, national head of fundraising for Mountain Rescue England and Wales, said,
“We’re very grateful to all the GO Outdoors customers who have supported our work over the summer with this project and their enthusiasm for all things mountain rescue. Our rescuers give their time on a voluntary basis, 24/7 and 365 days a year and this sort of continued support on a national scale makes all the difference.”
Earlier this month GO Outdoors revealed that almost 2,000 British walkers have successfully completed the first-ever Britain on Foot ‘Walk the World in 80 Days’ challenge.
Since July, the 80-day event has been challenging walkers young and old – eager newcomers and experienced enthusiasts alike – to discover and complete walks before declaring them online. The target was to complete a combined total of over 25,000 miles equivalent to the circumference of the earth.
The challenge saw the UK’s largest outdoor retailer GO Outdoors link up with outdoor gear manufacturer Mammut; Great Britain’s national mapping agency Ordnance Survey; outdoor charity Mountain Rescue; Switzerland Tourism, HF Holidays and Walk4Life.
