English Coastal Path could be open by 2020 
News today from the Ramblers association is that they’re delighted to hear the Government aims to speed up plans for an English coastal path that would unlock 3,000 miles of beautiful coastal scenery.
The chance to open up 3,000 miles of beautiful English coast line has been a dream of the Ramblers for a long, long time. An announcement from Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg stated that not only will this be a reality, but that it could be completed by 2020, this is especially notable in that for a while there were worries that the project could stall through lack of commitment/funding.
The Ramblers charity is particularly excited by the announcement and welcome the speeded up delivery and extra investment in the project. Throughout its 80 year history, the charity has led the campaign to open up the English coast line for the public to enjoy. In 2009, Ramblers won the right to walk along the coast but development of the England Coast Path on the ground has been slow. The Ramblers has has been instrumental in campaigning for this to become a reality and fulfil the dream of opening up the coast for all.
Benedict Southworth, Ramblers chief executive, said:
“We’re overjoyed that the government has recognised the huge public love for our coast and the enormous benefits access to our coastline will bring.
“Investing in the coast path is not just good news for walkers, but will help to breathe new life into our coastal towns and villages, boosting tourism and the local economy and reconnecting people with their stretch of coast, helping to promote health and wellbeing.
“The Ramblers has been the driving force behind the campaign to open up the coast for everyone to enjoy, bringing beaches for kids to play on and cliffs for climbers to clamber up, and we’re thrilled that this dream is soon to become a reality.
“We thank the government for bringing these benefits to the nation and look forward to walking on the completed England Coast Path.”
