YHA share 6 ideas to have a fantastic summer
Are you in need of some summer inspiration? Fear not! Our partners at the Youth Hostel Association have curated 6 ways to have an amazing summer in England and Wales. Even better, if you want to stay close to the action, YHA have rooms available from £29 per night at each of the locations featured.
So there’s no excuse to miss out on making the most of the sunshine!
1. Journey into Space at the Eden Project
27th July – 3rd September
Discover the wonders of the universe at the iconic Eden Project this summer. From exploring the solar system to training to be an astronaut at the Space Academy, exploring strange new worlds has never been so fun!
2. Learn to surf in Cornwall
Anytime, booking required
If you’ve always fancied learning to epically carve a wave while it’s firing without wiping out (dude), there’s no better place to start than the beautiful shore of Newquay. Wave’s Surf School gets rave reviews; well worth a look!
3. Walk the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
Free
Stretching 186 miles along some of the most incredible coastal scenery in Britain, it’s no surprise that this long distance trail is known as one of the best in the world. Completing the whole walk in one go can take up to 15 days, although even if you only walk a small section you’re certain to be rewarded with spectacular views and beautiful displays of plants and wildlife.
4. Climb a mountain (and have a coffee)
Free (not the coffee)
As the highest peak in Wales and England, Mount Snowdon really is the crowning jewel of Snowdonia. Conquering this mountain need only be as difficult as you want it to be; choose one of the six different trails to hike your way to the top, or for a more leisurely trip try the Snowdon Mountain railway. Whichever way you reach the summit, treat yourself to a coffee in the visitor centre while admiring the stunning views.
5. Explore a cave
Free
Hidden beneath the little peak of Castle Crag beside the river Derwent is something just a bit special. Millican Dalton’s Cave was home to the man of the same name in the 1930s, after he had given up his home and job in London to go in search of adventure. A teetotal, pacifist vegetarian in a wide-brimmed Tyrolean hat, he became a local walking and climbing guide and self-styled ‘Professor of Adventure’. Walk in his footsteps and discover your own adventure in Cumbria!
6. Summer Festivals with a difference
From Free
No summer is complete without spending some time in the great outdoors listening to some really amazing music. If you’ve tired of the usual festivals, there are some pretty interesting alternatives. Liverpool’s International Music Festival mixes big names with up and coming artists, and with this year’s theme being ‘Remember the Times’, there will be something for everyone with a journey through decades of musical evolution.
