The top ten hills to cycle down thanks to Sir Chris Hoy
Earlier this week in the Metro they featured a compiled list from Olympic Gold Medal winning cyclist Sir Chris Hoy of the greatest hills to cycle down in the UK. Sir Chris lead an expedition around the UK to find the top peaks for downhill cyclists, taking factors into consideration such as ease of use, historical meaning and much more. The list turned out as follows..
1.Newlands Corner, Surrey
2. Holme Moss, Pennines
3. Silver Street, Lyme Regis, Dorset
4. Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh
5. Blackstone Edge, West Yorkshire
6. Rest and Be Thankful, Scotland
7. Cheddar Gorge, Somerset
8. Old Winchester Hill, Hampshire
9. Ham Common, Richmond
10. Ralph Allen Drive, Bath
Cycling’s popularity is undeniable and with more and more people saddling up for rides to work to save on rising petrol costs, we expect Mountain biking to follow suit in popularity. Sir Chris Hoy was quoted in saying:
“It’s a great feeling when you reach the top of a hill and get to ride down the other side of it. By finding the top ten hills to cycle down, I hope the British public will get back on their bikes and re-live that feeling.”
Heading into the Christmas period, Mountain Bikes are always a popular pick up for the kids presents, but this year why not consider buying yourself a Mountain bike and hitting the hills in the new year for a new, adrenaline filled hobby.
