Staff Choices: Top 5 Cycling

Which gear would our staff choose from the upcoming season?

Continuing our series of picking out some of our favourite pieces of gear for the spring/summer 2013 season, we take to two wheels and look into our Cycling department. We took a few minutes with Mike – our Cycling buyer, and asked him what sort of accessories he would recommend for the upcoming season.

Top 5 Cycling Accessories – Mike, Cycling Buyer

Like most of our buyers, Mike is a big enthusiast of the pastime he buys for. A regular on the downhill Mountain Bike runs, he even spent his honeymoon heli-biking out in New Zealand. We know how personal picking a new bike can be, and our store staff are more than willing to help you find the right bike whether you fancy hitting the downhill runs, or whether you want to get a little fitter by commuting to work. So when we asked Mike for his favourite 5 cycling accessories for this season, here’s what he had to say:

1) Airace Waterman 19L

Mike says: “As I predominately ride mountain bikes in the UK and with our wonderful weather my bike, myself and my dog are always ditched, the Waterman with its 19 litre capacity and 12v power is a great product to have in the boot of your car to clean all of the above off, so the bike can go away clean when you get home.”

2) Topeak Smartphone Drybag

Mike says: “In this modern day smart phones with their thousands of apps can give you access to lots of useful things, like maps, GPS and training aids. The Topeak dry bag keeps your phone safe from the elements and the mounting bracket means it can be mounted to your bikes bar or stem for ease.”

3) Dare 2b Scampered Windshell

Mike says: “I hate having to take loads of kit when I go out for a ride, the Scampered allows me to have one shell that will allow me to take the arms off if I get too hot (or visa versa). It keeps the wind out very well and with its water-repellent coating it can help out if you get caught out in a shower.”

Retail Price: £50
Discount Card Price: £39.99

4) Topeak Alien II Bike Tool

Mike says: “Bikes in their mechanical nature will at some point have an issue, the Alien 2 is a great little tool that can really be the difference to the long walk of shame home or the satisfaction of a good trail side repair to get you back underway.”

Retail Price: £36.99
Discount Card Price: £29.99

5) Silva Simi Bike Lights

Mike says: “Even though the summer is coming (hopefully) being seen on your bike is important. I really like the Simi lights as they are very bright for their size, low cost and can fit almost anywhere; I have fitted them to the front and back of my helmet, around my forks, bars, seatpost even my hubs”

Retail Price: £9.99
Discount Card Price: £7.49
