Staff Picks: Top 5 Waterproof Jackets

In this instalment of our staff picks blog series, we’re starting a new month and it’s a little wetter than we would hope. Luckily Lucy from our Bristol store has been in touch with her top 5 waterproof jackets.

Top 5 Waterproof Jackets by Lucy, Bristol store staff.

Lucy works as part of the store team in our Bristol store in the clothing section, but over time has worked with most departments in store. In her spare time Lucy enjoys camping, walking coastal paths, rowing and cycling.

We asked Lucy what her favourite 5 pieces were from our waterproof jacket range, and here is what she came back with:

1) Marmot Precip Jacket

Lucy says: “Clever piece by Marmot, a really good all round jacket which is breathable, fully waterproof and a comfortable fit, all for a very good price. It has features like pit zips and a fully adjustable hood.”

The new Precip jackets have really been doing quite well with reviewers, and for us at GO, we think it’s one of the best waterproof shells in it’s price bracket.

2) Rab Latok Alpine Jacket

Lucy says: “A classic mountaineering/climbing jacket. eVent membrane fabric which is incredibly breathable and comfortable to wear in all weathers. Climbing fit, high up chest pockets, waterproof zip. Very long lasting and durable jacket for mountain and hill use.”

The Latok Alpine continues to be one of Rab’s most popular pieces. The eVent fabric makes it a very breathable jacket for active use, but with most eVent pieces can take some care to maintain it’s waterproof properties.

3) Craghoppers Reaction Lite Jacket

Lucy says: “Very lightweight, comfortable, day to day waterproof jacket. Recommended for Duke of Edinburgh or similar expedition use, the reaction lite packs into it’s own pocket,  which makes it great for carrying when not in use. Good quality waterproofing from Craghoppers. This comes at a good price as it can be comfortable in all seasons in quick changing weather.”

We’ve been seeing some great reviews for these jackets from customers since they have been recommended for DofE use, the best point being just how small they pack down, an ideal jacket for the bottom of your rucksack.
